The earliest evidence of humans at Jenny Lake dates back to 11,000 years ago. By the time Europeans arrived many tribes were harvesting the valley's goods. Indians often camped near rivers and lakes to hunt and harvest things. They left the valley during winter following their prey. Many years later Jenny lake got its name. It was named in honor of the guide for the 1872 expedition- Richard "Beaver Dick" Leigh. Jenny Lake was named after his wife, a Shoshoni woman. In 1998 many buildings at South Jenny Lake were added tho the National Register of Historic Places. It was the first area developed for recreation in Grand Teton. Jenny Lake lured visitors before Grand Teton was established.Homesteader, Charles J. Wort created a summer boat business in the 1920s through the U.S. Forest Service. Kenneth Reimer took over in 1935. National Park Service designers oversaw construction of the cabin he built. As a boy, harrison crandall saw a picture of the teton range. He moved west and built a studio in the 1920s. In the 1930s the park's first ranger station and museum opened in a rustic cabin. This cabin still serves as a ranger station today. During the Great Depression, the Cuvilian Conservation Corps. hired men between 17 & 25 to work on projects throughout the country.the largest CCC camp in the park was south of Jenny Lake.

Jenny Lake, which was ofrmed over 11,000 years ago by glaciers pushing rocks and debris which carved Cascade Canyon during the last glacial maximum forming a terminal moraine. Which in conclusion created Jenny Lake. Estimated to be about 423 feet deep and about 1,191 acres. All of the wildlife includes: moose, deer , bear , alk and more. The air is sweet due to the Douglas Fir trees. And is also almost in the center of Grand Teton National Park!
