Obsidian Cliffs
The obsidian cliffs were named by Philetus Norris, the second park superintendent in 1878. The nearest city is ,"Gardiner Montana." the obsidian cliff consists an area of 3,580 acres. If your wondering how the cliff was made, it was made from thick ryolite lava flow that occured about 180,000 years ago. it is 7,400 feet above sea level and goes on for about half a mile. the cliff extends between 150 and 200 feet about Obsidian Creek. this national park was declared a National historic Landmark in 1996. the Obsidian Cliffs was the first site that was quarried here about 12,00 years ago.The Obsidian Cliffs are 13 miles south of Mammoth Hot Springs.
